The Revolution is a Mirror

The revolution is a reflection of ourselves and all that we aspire to be.

Mirrors are associated not only with self-speculation and self-improvement, but with a more decadent love of self and subsequent self-deception. It is a choice we all make when standing before a mirror. As such, the mirror has the dual potential to instruct and to corrupt all those who stand or parade before it. Gazing into a mirror excites the potential for evaluating our (in)action, prompting the possibility of/for marvellous change.

Like the revolution and citizens in Syria and host countries around the world, this change remains far removed from the idealized reflection with which one would love to beholds oneself. Yet we believe the presence of this small flexible magnet may be a celebration of those who have courageously done all they can, and be accusatory towards those who have always done too little. For the rest of us, it is an invitation to act, an anonymous aide-mémoire, to be (mis)understood in any way we see fit.

We are inspired by mirrors within telescopes and similar viewing apparatuses: using such instruments, our eyes transverse space, decreasing distances by pushing forth our ocular sensibilities towards outlying territories. Perhaps this humble ma net may belong to a similar order of technologies, a static machine through which one may capture a glimpse of a moment to come.
